sir,
my son has has joined a central govt dept under sports quota and has signed a service bond for five years at the time of joining. after serving for four and half years he had to resign the job as he has got a better offer from a psu. he has submitted proper resignation letter with copy of new appointment letter attached. now after a gap of five years he has received a letter addressed to the present employer asking my son to pay heavy amount for not fulfilling the bond period.. please advice me urgently whether there is any time limit is there (three years) for enforcing the bond agreement. they have not spent any amount on my training with regard to official or sports activities.

Dear Mr Janarthanan,
In general service bonds are not valid in India. Please find an attachment. However please do consult Legal Advisors - Labour Related and verify your Service Bond has got any specific clause. It is better to have clarity form experts.

Without seeing the bond it is not possible to comment. However if the bond is one sided generally it is not valid. Was there a mention in the offer of appointment that he has to subit a bond for five years. If not than it is not valid.
At the time of resignation if was accepted without mention of bond it is illegal to ask now.
Please give me brief histroy of events than only you can be advised.
