Dear Seniors ,

I am in bit confusion ....................... so i am here to discuss my problem with all of you my HR friends , i hope you will definetly suggest me the best way.

Dear currently i am working with a Multiplex brand in a capital of state(its a new state) as HR Executive from past 8 months .

I got offer from a Manufacturing concern they are into Power Manufacturing they have new power plant in state . apart from that they have various businesses but all in manufacturing .

The position is of AM - HR and Admin the salary hike is around 50% on my current CTC .

But this company is a local company no doubt if i join here i will be getting opportunity to manage a manpower of around 500 - 600 people right now i am handling 70 staff at my plex .

The only problem is of working hours here at plex my duties are 9 to 6 but in new company they are saying i have to do 9.30 to 8 .

I am newly married my husband is also working and his working hours are 9.30 to 6.30

i tried to convince this company on working hours but they are saying its their culture to work till 8 .

dear friends they are saying me to join from 1st november now choice is totally mine , i am not able to take up any decision .
My current concern cant give me any better opportunity bec HR executive is the highest level of HR at UNIT . so no scope of growth here at this place.

people please suggest me what should i do .

i am so depressed to think of my career ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, ,,,,

Hi sujata,

I can understand your predicament. I would suggest you to review the following.

1. Commuting distance from your home to the new company. Take a comparison from your present company with the new one. (you can work out the time of commuting between house to office). If it is viable, think about shifting (if possible) your home nearby to the new company.

2. Working upto 8 PM is normally a culture in all the pvt companies in India. (but make sure is that all the days in a year or it is only a temporary thing till u establish urself in the new company?) Pls check up how ur wud be colleagues are managing. (thro direct /indirect sources)

3. How flexible is ur hubby on this time factor? You have to discuss with him and take his suggestions (he will be better person than anybody suggesting here)

4. If you focus on career growth, you have to compromise few personal factors intially. How far you and ur hubby are comfortable in compromising those?

Introspect and you will get some lights to make a decision.

Dear Sujatha,
No one can give better solution for u r quiry rather than your husband.
I think just discuss with him first and take his intrest to allow you to work up to eight or not.
Problem will be solved.
In another angle u have to think yourself that can you handle 600 emp.or not at present u r handling only 70 emp.. Of course it may not difficult to handle but the work presure will high.....
So think twice and take a better decision

Dear David and Uday,
Thanks alot friends for your suggestions i had a talk with my husband he dont have any issue if i wil work till 8 the only thing is that , my current company is multinational brand and it belongs to multiplex business (Hospitallity and Retail) and my would be company is into Manufaturing its a group company and they have different manufacturing units of Rolling Mills, Power Generation,Sponge Iron so from career growth prospect which one will be better.

To my opinion, it is advisable to be in the existing company itself. Because
HR in a marketing / retail co is more easier than in a manufacturing company as the latter involves more IR than HR.
Further you need to deal with workers in manufacturing sector which
will onceagain be a demanding job as it will work under shifts which would not be suitable for women.
Try some other companies in IT/Marketing / Retail sectors which would
definitely suit you.

Dear Sujata,

I guess you will have to discuss this with your husband, and take some input from him. I am sure he might not feel good about the extended work hours - but both you need to set your priorities together. Life will not always be the same - meaning, not always you will be stuck with this job. You need to sacrifice a few things during the initial period of your career (I will call this initial period as the first 5 years of anyone's career)

As long as you can stabilize this first 5 period - and reach a good level, I think, then managing other opportunities will be a smooth flow for you.

Just make sure the work is something you can manage in the new assignment.

Sometimes - when we avoid taking an opportunity like this, by putting family in the front, may not help in the long run. Also

If you put career ahead of personal life - even that can be dangerous. So talk to your husband, make sure he suggests and guides you through this. And the conversation should not be emotionally packed - so start with listing your priorities in life - what needs to be managed, what kind of financial commitment both of you have.

I am sure thinsg will go fine - feel free to touch base anytiem you'd require help.

And also about the role - yes, moving forward you will have to assume greater roles and greater responsibilities. Just make sure that within the next 2 - 3 years (when you complete 5 years of working) you should make yourself as the best in the industry.
Dont be worried about "what if things go wrong" ,. It will be fine.

i had a talk right now with the management of company they are saying that i may leave office till 7 or 7.30 , now i am feeling better as they understand my problem

Dear,
Two things for consideration:
You are currently working in service industry and planning to move to manufacturing, its a crucial step to take. As it is very predictable to get typecast as Production HR, which can later prove to be a constriant.
Even if the management agrees to limit your timings its very unlikely that they will do it. For employees in management dept, there are no definate working hours. So please be cautious abt it.

It would the best way to speak out with your husband and try to evolve practical and ideal solution.
Working hours may not be a constraint if it is discussed and understood amongst yourselves.
I feel, the present role which you are going to take encompasses of greater responsibilities, so taking a view on career and as members said, to move on, you should stabilize with greater responsibilities.
I feel the role would be much of energetic and pressurised too!
