Re: Thomas International

In the UK Thomas International have been at the centre of a long running debate about the quality of their tools for some time now. I have tended to stay out of the debate as it seems to be a squabble between occupational psychologists to be honest.

I have used some of their tools some time ago and found them to be ok to a certain degree. The personality tool based around DISC is good in that it differentiates enough to not make it a horoscope but it is done at a reasonable cost. A year after assessing new recruits with it I revisited their profiles and found them to reflect the person pretty well each time; so good marks there.

My only question would be around how much work they have done to make it culturally specific enough for use outside the UK. They didn't go through a major exercise to launch it in the UK (or at least that's what their detractors say) so I wonder if it can be reliable and valid outside the UK - not sure.

Hope that helps?

cheers

Derek.

hi derek,

thanks for your response. It is an interesting perspective. I do agree that their tools could be improved.

In terms of the quality of their tools I would suggest you reivew the British Psychological Society test review area. You can see the summary review for Thomas here:
Test Registration

They score quite well in relation to the other tools that are reviewed.
