probation and notice period

if an employee is on probation and his appointment state that he has to serve 3 months notice and not stated anything on notice period when he is on probation . what is the rule

Correct me if I'm wrong, but this is what i have understood - 1. your letter states that you are on probation and 2. the letter states that you are required to serve 3 months notice.

If this is the case then you have to serve 3 months of notice period or pay salary in leiu of unsreved notice period.
