Hi!
I had received an email offer letter stating a bonus amount for joining within a certain date. I had sent an email accepting the offer and resigned from my current job.
In the hard copy of the offer letter that was sent to me a different amount is now being stated. When i got in touch with the HR they said there was a typo in the original offer and apologized for it.
Now i am in a bind as i have already resigned from my current job and there is a substantial difference in the offers.
What are my options? Can anybody guide me? has it happened to anybody else.

You can't help if the HR guys who should act with more responsibility and answerability are in this kind of state. Really it is a pity. They cannot simply wash their hands off offering some trivial excuse. You need not keep quiet and you can always bring this lapse into the notice of someone in higher position in the organization and ask them to amend the salary structure accordingly. It is the entire responsibility of HR department who should once or twice cross check the terms of offer before handing it over to the candidate. Due to their ignorance and callous attitude how can you become a scape goat and lose something which you were promised through the letter of offer. Please do not let this happen and act wisely so that they do not repeat this kind of shameful incidents in future atleast. Treat them a lesson in such a fashion that they should not be so careless in preparation of offer letters for other candidates.

I would take it up with the Head of Department. While the HR is responsible for the paperwork, the Head is responsible for the satisfaction of the employee

U need not worry or even get worked up. All you have to do it inform them that they promised u an amount in the offer - & whether it was a typo on their part or whatever, they have to pay it to you now.
Also tell them that if u fabricated experiance on your resume - would u be allowed to say, sorry by mistake someone else's experiance go copied. Same way just tell them that whatever it was its their problem.
Give them a deadline to get back to you (max 2 days) & keep your eyes open for other opportunities - as we may not like it but its not worth it taking them to court over it.
Also ask yourself whether u really want to work for a company that does this?? - if they are so callous before u join, imagine what they can do after u join?

I would suggest you to pls take up to the management of the Company stressing that with that bonus you had got yourself relieved from the prev employer and you are bound to get the bonus amount. If need be let the HR guy own up and reimburse the Company.
Also, one word of caution is - please do not rub the wrong side too much with the HR guys - since you will need to be in touch with them always.
Take deal the case carefully.
also as rightly pointed out by other members, pls do consider of your continuing your service with the same. Keep looking out for better opportunities and switch over, if you decide not to be with the services of the present employer.

Do not let it die there i would suggest you should escalate the matter even if you are not joining to all the concerned persons in the management of that company, pls send communicate to the CEO too. :shock: :oops:
Secondly, if you have resigned and not released you can take back your resignation so your current job is safe you may not reveal why you are actually taking back the resignation but discuss and convince your boss that you have thought over the matter and want to stay back. :wink:
