Hi RBP,
There is no single thumb rule for corelating the two.
First, it varies from industry to industry and corporate to corporate.
Though, by having a general knowledge u can easily do the needful.

Hi
Grade is Used as Internal Tool for the Job description with skill level, experience, proficiency in job , secondly Designation is show window which cannnot be correlated to Salary ,may at ceratin point time salary may be less as this is basically company 's showman description which is desired it may or may not be related to Salary in Most Cases
Thirdly Salary depends on Experience , pay power of comapny inrelation to benchmarking comparison with other industry

Hi,
There is absolutely no thumb rule. But follwoing decisions are the premise of any system.
1. U can have a 2 * 2, 2* 3, 3*3 & so on matrix ..... Like u can have a system whereby each salary level is applicable to only 1 designation, or one set of desinations.
2. Similarly u can have a system which applies to operations & staff. In the sense that u have 2 different structures under the same level for technical ppl & support ppl.
3. If u are looking at developing a basic system, her are some tips: -
