| | Urgent help required on Per Diem!!! Dear All,
I am working with a Software Product Company. Recently we have quite a few of our employees travelling to USA, Germany and China. As we are a start up company we dont really have a proper Business Travel Policy in place. As of now the company takes care of the staying and food expenses of the employee and pays some 20$ as a per diem.
I needed some inputs from you all about the kind of Per Diem rates which are paid for Long term as well as short term travel. It would be great if some of you can send across the Business Policies used in your companies.
Looking forward for your help. Thanks in advance.
Regards,
Shraddha.[/u] |

| | Re: Urgent help required on Per Diem!!! Hi,
Most of the companies give the per diem as 40 USD / equivalent to US or any other country. For Europe normally it is 40 - 60 Euros. In this case, the accommodation will be provided by the company. Employees are expected to look after their food and travel to office (from the place of accomodation) expenses with this amount. Any other additional official expenses can be reimbursed seperately. If the employee opts for his own accommodation at the travel place, then the per diem would be 40+20 USD / equivalent. The per diem amount may vary from company to company. But the above rates are generally followed by the companies.
Also, Per diem is given when an employee travels on a short term (usually on a Business Visa). If an employee travels on a long term with a work permit (say for eg, 3 months and above), he will be given onsite salary depending on the country he travels to. At the same time, his India salary will be discontinued for the travel period when he draws the onsite salary.
I hope this answers your query.

| | Re: Urgent help required on Per Diem!!! Hello,
I hope the following information with related to the cost of living in UAE, which can be compared almost equivalent to any of the major cities mentioned in your query:
A per diem of USD 20 is too low, comparing the hotel and food expenses charges. On an average, multi-national companies now provide as a standard about 80 to 100 USD as daily allowance. It may vary +- 20 depending on the grade of the employee.
For your added benefit, I am providing you a link where you will be able to extract tables of essential commodities prices here in UAE during the last 1+ year. From this you may be also calculate the average increase and pro rata you can work out the expenses, as these prices are considered standard with that of other US and European countires. http://team1dubai.blogspot.com/2008/...-selected.html

| | Hi All,
Most of the European Countries per diem allowance will start around 100 EUR.
America's will be approx 120 US$ (as it's a huge geography)
MEA the start up structure could be approx 90 to 100 US$
Based on above startup you can build on the structure by increasing per diem allowance depending upon the hierarchy in the company.
Still if some one want to do a research in per diem allowance for a particular country, he can use the below inputs:
1. Hotel Cost ( Cheap Hotels in Cairo, Egypt. Cairo Hotel Deals & Discounts - Yahoo! Travel)
2. Mobile Cost per minute*5 minutes per day
3. Transport cost
4. food cost
