I read this quote somewhere, but I find it enriched with all the ingredients required to be a good Professional!
FAME IS A VAPOUR
POPULARITY AN ACCIDENT
RICHES TAKE WINGS
ONLY ONE THING ENDURES
AND THAT IS CHARACTER

The question I want to ask here is : Can the character of a person is the most important thing??
CHaracter includes Ethics, Values, moral, attitude, personality and good nature.
If anything can be added to that, please do that.
DO share your your views and expert comments on that.

Dear archna,
CHaracter includes Ethics, Values, moral, attitude, personality and good nature.
The various qualities required for a human being are brought under above factors.
My main concern is whether above factors are maintained continously ? or depending upon their whims and fancy they change ?
Many people, in order to get certain facilities AND in order not to loose certains facilities, they just forget their ethics, moral etc...When we quote their sudden changes in thier behaviour, they say they are right and we must know how to behave in a diplomatic way.
So above qualities are indeed plays very vital role, proivded they are part of their blood and very natural one and NOT un-natural.

Well...in my views...become successful and popular is easy. But it requires alot of character (Values, Principles, Ethics) to stay there. I don't know if you people have seen "Kabhi Khushi, Kabhi Gham"...in one of scene Amitabh tells Shahrukh, "Paise to har koi kama leta hai...izaat kamana har kissi ke bas ki baat nahi".
When anyone becomes famous...and popular we start judging that person by his character...because we see successful and famour people as our role-model.
Amitabh Bhachan would not have got this respect...this adulation...had he left Jaya for Rekha.
Shahrukh...Sachin Tendulkar...if they leave their familes...they will be no where. So, family bonding...your overall character...is important for you to stay there.
History is full of people...who become famous, popular, successful...but they failed to stay there...at the top.
Your comments are awaited.

Hi Sanjeev,
I accept family bonding is very important. At the same time character of a person also includes selfishness. We find many people around us who struggle for their own family and for the related ones... If the issue comes to some one who are not much related to them.... even by having the capability to give helping hand, they doesn't want to come forward.....
And also one more important thing in a person to have good character is that you should not remind the people about the help you have done to them nor expect them to be under your control as you have helped them once in a while. Obviously they do have concern for your help (may be few are exceptional who forgets the help taken) but you should never remind them what you have done to them in the past ....
These are few of my views to share with you all guys ....

Srisha...and other people who are participating in this discussion....
Reminding, somebody of the helping hand that you have extened...is bad. Atleast I don't do that. And I believe that parents also...should never ever tell their kids about the sacrifices and things that they have done for their kids. Its is like asking to "Pay-Back".
I don't know...if you understand Hindi or not...but they say..."Daan Tabhi hota hai agar apna pet bhara hua ho"...(You can give food to other people if you yourself have taken you food and are not feeling hungry).

Hey Guys,
Difference of opinion exists and a wise people understands this fact also.
So,lets get started on the original topic, which is about CHARACTER and its components.
I'm really eager to know what people think of character.
I have seen many people giving the title of " LOOSE CHARACTER" to others, without clearly understanding the meaning.
Is character related to the integrity of a person?
Is it right to relate your character with friendship with opposite sex??

Integrity is a big thing and Character is just a subset. If you go by the actual meaning of Integrity...I don't think most of us have any integrity. Integrity consist of:

1) To be true to yourself and people around you.

2) To keep your words...your commitment.

3) Walk the talk.

4) Respect for yourself and people around you.

5) Be modest and be humble.

6) Don't cheat...don't lie.

7) Your principles, your values and your ethics.

If you just look at "Character"...it consist of your "BEHAVIOUR" and the way you carry yourself in public.

Related to Character...there are two terms..."Loose Character" and "Character Assassination". We are social animal and we cannot exist in isolation. Just like, there are rules for every game...there are rules to live in the society. And if any one behaves in a manner which is not permissiable by social norms...that person is called as a person with "Loose Character". Few Examples...

1) Kissing your partner at public places.

2) Beating or abusing your partner at public places.

3) Married and still having relations outside marriage...or not married but having relation with someone who is married.

All the above mentioned...as per social norms...are termed as traits of loose character...there can be more examples.

"Character Assassination" is a term used...when you talk about something about somebody in his or her absence. Example...Ram JethMalani in Jessica Lal Case. In short, talking something bad about the person in his or her absence, when they cannot defend themselves.

I hope this will help.

Hey Sanjeev,
That's a good one. Thanks for the explanation.
But I would still like to ask you that Integrity is not a part of Character?
Is it so, why?
Our behaviour and Integrity are interrelated, so why not character and integrity.
I rejected three candidates in my company on grounds of their CHARACTER. They were all very good in their field but we are a high value company so rejected their candidature.
Please shre your views, all of you.

Your character is a part of your Integrity but it is not Integrity in totality. It is just a subset. Look from this side...all issues related to your character does effect your integrity but all issues related to integrity are not part of your character.
