Dear All

For quite long I'm thinking of writing it, sharing it with you all guys so that atleast I can get some decent and clear answers from my fellows. Now the thing is I'm working with a leading media house at Delhi. Here in HR Dept we are 3 females who are taking care of all the Hr functions of whole of the group. I joined here as HR Exe. last October whereas both the other females(one HR Head and other joined as Sr. Executive but last Oct got promoted as AM-HR) are working here since Oct' 07. Both of them share a very bond b/w each other whether it at professional front or at personal front. They share things rt frm minute office details to their household details and husbands and in-laws...everythg. Now being young in age and also quite junior I sometimes feel tht they are more involved in themselves rather than mentoring me or guiding me to the new areas in HR and making me a part of them. Both of them do all the major functions in HR(Training modules, Policies making, etc, etc) by themselves and keep me for functions like recruitments, induction, payroll, HR reports, etc, etc. So because of this I'm not able to learn more things about HR like compensation, PMS, training and development, policies making/ amendments, etc(which I would love to learn and practice in my career). Now I'm thinking to switch over to some good company where my KRAs are well defined, which are not here, and more of exposure to the areas of my interest rather than sticking to just big brand for quite long. But along with this I'm also confused about things like...whether I should take this thought forward or not; whether I should stay in this company for atleast 2 yrs, so tht I can show stability in my profile to my future employers; whether nowadays good companies really look for stability in a candidate's profile or no and if it is a mandate with them; if this kind of problem is prevailing in other companies also, i mean lack of professionalism; is it a mandate to be close to ur boss with smart work and also with personal talking about your family, husband, BF, affairs, etc... Please suggest me and guide whether I should look out for a change after completing a yr or not..???

Hi Harman,

Don't share your personal issues/affairs to anyone, only if they consider n respect ur words, and tatz y we have friends, share with them. Lemme put in other way, can u imagine ur head as ur friend, if so, thn nothing to worry, go share your personal issues, but if not, juz don't evn think of sharing. Have professional relationship with your boss, hav open mind, if you want to learn something, go discuss with your boss directly, don't hav any reservations with you. I wud suggest, don't quit this job, remember u vl find such ppl in all the streams of your life. Don't avoid the problems, try to solve it. Think, you are younger than ur boss n ur colleauge, u r at the entry level of ur career, it is very obvious, the elderly or the experienced ppl vl provide you the low risk job, it is not that they r not providing major functions, you have to involve/learn things from them. My friend, nobdy will teach u in this world, u hav to confront, fyt n come out. any more queries??...post me...Keep rockin

Hi,
I personally beleive that when you want to have healthy professional relation with a blend of trust with your superiors/peers or subordinates, you need to be personal but you should be able to draw a thin line to have the relations in controlled manner. If you want to learn something you should always be ready to accept the others. They may have their own mental blocks, but it;s the role of HR to get the work done out of such situations. So always be professional with a personal warm touch to win the trust of the people surrounding you. This will make your learning process quick and easier.
Escaping from the such issues is not the right way for HR professional.

dear,
i feel that one should try to take something positive from every situation you face. its very obvious that you feel depressed when things dont happen the way it should. try to divert your mind to something else, as u mentioned that you like to take up the challenging task then why dont you try to help your seniors , go and ask them whether you can help them? if they say yes, then its good , else try to complete the task in hand efficiently so that they gain confidence on you and they will involve you in all other things also.
regarding sharing personal things with your collegues , then it is very obvious that when you work together for quite a long time and feel that the other person understands you and your feelings in a better way, then its a human tendancy that those 2 people will share there joys and sorrows with each other.
rest you have to learn from your own experience, no one can teach you, everyone can share experiences and give some advice.
be positive and be happy

Dear Kaur,
as far as the matter of change is concerned u can move a head if u are getting a better opportunity than this one otherwise everywhere goes these things at the junior level so be habitual and accept the comapny environment till u don' found a better place.
