Hi Junaid

I don't know how much this is going to help you, but check out this article...

Gujarat

Gujarat accounts for 80% of the diamonds processed in India. 55% of the global diamond cutting and polishing happens in Surat. Gujarat also houses some the primary gold markets (in and around Rajkot and Ahmedabad). Gujarat is estimated to export Rs 25000 crores (USD 5 billion) worth cut and polished diamonds. This accounts to nine out of 10 diamonds mounted on jewellery, all over the world, being processed in Surat. The gems and jewellery industry is also the second largest employer after agriculture in the State, generating 1 million jobs, besides being a non polluting industry.

The diamond industry of the country is primarily concentrated in Surat, contributing to 80% of the diamonds processed in India. 90% of the contribution is from 10,000 units in and around Surat which has emerged as the nerve center of this industry. Over 3000 units are spread over Ahmedabad, Palanpur, Bhavnagar, Valsad, Navsari and Rajkot. While this has lead to geographic concentration of the processing centers, skill sets for processing are available across the state and contribute a major part of the specialized migrant labour into these districts.

A huge domestic market, coupled with India’s competent position in the global market has opened a host of opportunities in the following sectors, such as:
  • Contract processing

    Designing

    Jewellery design and manufacture

The domestic market for both, gemstones and diamonds, has reached a level of maturity where industry can build upon the successes of the past and leverage the skill sets with state of the art technology to offer superiorly crafted jewellery. The jewellery industry would be able to absorb the processed gemstones, thus retaining the increase in value of the end product.

Junaid, if you would find the trade association of the diomand polishers of Surat, you would get most of the information required by you.. Further try checking the Government of Gujarat Website for attracting investments and increasing exports... [maybe Vibrant Gujarat website] That might give you some more information that might be of some help
