Hi All,

Is it just about safety of working women while going home? ???

Women are not safe in the offices too....there are incidents where women are harrassed by their bosses etc... what safety measures or actions should be taken then????

We should try develop an platform , where a women can raise a voice against these kind of people without any fear or pressure.

and i feel that liberty & support can only be given by their own family members, colleagues and friends....so that women feel more secure and can freely talk about the harrasment and the problems they face with these kind of people..

I hope no one can deny this point about women safety.

Lets join hands...to make our society safer for women.

What men can do about womens safety

Men can help by taking the issue of women's safety seriously in their everyday lives.

Bear these points in mind:

If you are walking in the same direction as a woman on her own, don't walk behind her - this may worry her. Cross the road and walk on the other side. This may reassure her that you are not following her.

Don't sit too close to a woman on her own in a railway carriage or bus.

If you are thinking of chatting to a woman waiting, for example, at a lonely bus stop, remember that she won't know you mean no harm.

Realise how threatening actions such as staring, whistling, passing comments and jostling can be, particularly when you are one of a group of men.

Help female friends or family members by giving them a lift or walking them home when you can. If you do, make sure they are safely indoors before you leave.

Oh maybe ..a second thought can begiven to cab drivers..U see pro's n con's always exist...Actually Sumit the victims always keep talking much..Another thing i must really add..be it anybody one should atleast act without panicking or say presemce of mind.Cos I've encountered two such case myself.I'm just trying to bring out the situation so that the msg is conveyed.Espescially gals/ladies need to be so We just need to be daring as far our safety concerns
This happened when I was returning home from work via a local transport "share auto" in chennai around 8pm.After a distance there were two of us left in the auto one of whom was a guy.And he behaved indirectly in an abusive manner which irritated me but I could not even move from that place cos i was seated in d corner. Then i took the pen knife which i used to carry evryday n was holding it by the side of my shoulders unseen.Bingo!!! guess what when the auto hit the speed bumps it wounded him to a certain extent which forced him to move away from me but he wasnt aware that i did that.

Another incident which took recently when a theif was trying to break into the house at nite.without waking anybody I went downstairs, rang the neighbours from my mobile and then when heard ppls sound's turned on all the lights in&outside of my house..and he was caught but he somehow escaped still. But thanks to God, he dint enter the house. And, yes I do have pepper sprays, red chilli powder sprays handy.

So, everyone in their own way are affected..especialy women, gals travelling by public transport.Well, this topic can go on..But i just wanted to point out presence of mind

Great Job Kavitha!!

I too once carried a pen knife...but by the time I searched for it and took it out.. the chance for using it always missed . .. .

But I always pray - I should never come in contact with a thief. I dont have the guts to move out of the room even if I hear a meow or bow bow outside my house, esp during nite times.

Yea and dont think I am lucky to have a dog safeguard the house..he is equally scared.

As an HR person, it will always be advisable to frame a general policy of your own to prevent sexual harassment at workplace. This has become obligatory for employers following the Apex Court verdict in Vishaka's case. I have prepared a Policy against sexual harassment and is available in my blog. You can make any modification as you think fit and make it your policy applicable to all employed in your organisation. Please follow the link.

Yes friends, u r right.,

But as long as govt. brings rigid law on this evil practice towards women, the company policies will not work. I mean according to our company rules and regulations and code of behave we can terminate the employee or else seek a legal action but what happens ultimately they (convicted) are easily escaping from the punishment by using loopwholes in pinal codes.

A rigid bill should be introduced in eithers of central and state.

Thanks & Reg.,
