Best will be to talk to your guide (at company OR at your school) to help you out with study. At the end of day your projecty should benefit the company you are working with (not just that you learn). I suggest following steps:
(1) Start with defining the project objective (research objective)
(2) Define your research methodology (primary research, secondary research etc)
(3) Conduct research
(4) Validate results
(5) Present your results (report , presentation)

This is one of the unique things they did [well our director was consultant for them]
Gave higher designation to the sales staff [territory sales officers etc]. that is said to have given the employees some mental block to switching companies [ they won't go for the lower levels even if the salary was slightly higher]
