Hi

I have nearly 3 years of Experience in HR. Since from 2.8 years I am working in my present company.

Right now the management has changed in our company. Actually one of our senior is thinking himself as a manager and he is showing authorization on us. No body is there to oppose him. Our MD is staying in other country. Till now he has not visited our company. Simply they are listening to his words. The problems am facing in my present company are

  • Recruitment is not at all systematic. Our senior person will come and tell us to give offer to what ever person he likes. Some times there wont be any HR Round
  • They are not at all declaring any holiday

Coming to Accounts Department: Actually there are two Accounts Executive in Our Company….but one left as she got married and transferred to other state. Other Executive is thinking himself as a Genius. He always comes late and he doesn’t report to anybody.

He is thinking that every thing is his hand….now he is playing with us as salary is in his hand. In our office there is no body to ask, though we are around 50 employees.

  • He does not want to share anything with us. He is least bothered about the HR Department.

Now tell what I have to do……I hope it is not a good situation to change the job.
There is no value for the HR Department in our company.

Please guide us seniors.

Thanks and Regards

Hi

Chandru,

Please read my comments given below.

The problems am facing in my present company are--The onus has to always come from the senior management of setting an organization wide culture. This implies that you need to interface with your top mgmt, make them realise the critical need of HR in a company and then everything else should follow. Moreover, it is all a top down approach. If you have leadership at the top, everyone below is forced to follow it initially and with time, it becomes a habit.

  • Recruitment is not at all systematic. Our senior person will come and tell us to give offer to what ever person he likes. Some times there wont be any HR Round-Take ownership; chalk out the importance of formal recruitment system. Highlight the need of a proper recruitment system, prepare JD's, inculcate new selection techniques like behavioural interviews, personality based interviews etc. Create a recruitment roadmap, mark the role of everyone involved right from screening, conducting functional/technical interviews, offer generation, fitment, negotiation and closing.
  • They are not at all declaring any holiday-As per the norms, create a holiday calendar and hightlight the importance of giving holidays to employees.

I have a feeling that the top management is either not bothered or is completely ignorant of the present scenario. I would suggest you to draft a letter/email mentioning all the pain points in detail; mention the importance that you as the HR person can bring, indicate best practises which you can bring into the system and have a call with him sometime. After all, you are thinking only for the benefits of the company. I can bet you that your MD will be very pleased; one thing is that you should not be scared of him at all and be as expressive as possible.

Not sure if I have been able to suggest anything important; do let me know if it works or not!

Thanks and Regards
