dear all seniors,
firstly i would like to greet u alll the best wishes for new year.
the thing is i have a query on exit interviews.
i know that this is done for the organizational sake with by taking answers from their employees who want to quit from the job!!
but i have a doubt is this exit interviews can be posed( applicable) towards the students who want to change the school from ours to others or like wise....
(i am working as management trainee in an school at hyderabad where i want to double the school strength and want to know the reason for most dropouts{IF any} with the school)
plz help me in this regard. by suggesting me any material so that i can have much knowledge........

One Basic principle in Management of People - "Employees Join an Organisation & they leave their Manager's ". Exit Interview is used to understand why an employee decided to leave a company and many companies conduct this either on the last day of the employee leaving it or after his F & F is closed. As a HR Professional, I do not advice this. Its like conducting a postmortam to know the cause of the death. You need to take an approach which will avoid this death happening itself. The method of Appreciative Enquiry will help you to take a different approach.

Instead of focusing on people who leave you, focus on Value that you have created to people who have stayed with you and grown with you by continuing their association. Project that as a success story, while will change the mind of people. Some of the immeidate things that you can do :
  1. Do a survey on Value's of the School and publish it
  2. Create Success Stories
  3. Publish interview's with Parents
  4. Publish Student's photo's all over the school
  5. talk about the individual achievement's
  6. create practices which are very successful and process that can evolve itself instead of something which will die once you leave them
  7. Publish articles in local news papers about this school.
  8. Ask successful alumini to come back and talk to Senior students
  9. Involve Parents in all your activities
  10. Vote most favourate teacher etc...
Hope this will be useful to you.

Dr.Vichitra,

Your view about our forum as family forum is ridiculous and outrageous as well. You are making mockery of our profession on this forum.

I want to commit suicide after reading this kind of unscrupulous subject. This is height of IQ level where what and when is missing….

Hi,
According to me if employee is shifting then many times money is the factor or a challenging role or a location but if a child is changing the school many time money is not the factor. So from old school point of view it is very important to know what extra or what kind of value-added education is given by new school.
In my opinion you can conduct a exit interview with parents bcoz they are the one who are decision makers. Of course the approach will make a lot of difference while conducting interview. If you take their suggestions as feedback than complaints I am sure it will help the school. You will get answers on which you need to improve on.

That’s what my opinion as a HR person and as a parent.
