Dear Sir,

There is nothing bad in keeping the registers according to this excel sheet under this Act. We can produce the hard copy before the inspector for inspection purposes. Main difficulty will be of taking signature of the employees on this format. You have rightly said to have exemption from the appropriate authority. Rule 6 of this Act says that all entries are to be made in ink, this register should be page marked and register shall be signed by the employee and employer. The compliance of this Rule 6 is very difficult. How every employer will approach the authority for grant of exemption? Moreover authority shall also give the exemption for a specific period only and therefore we will have to apply time and again for this matter. In our opinion the Industrial/Management Associations should approach the government for amending this Rule. When under other Acts like Factories Act, Minimum Wages Act, Contract Labour(R & A) Act etc., there is no such provision of putting signature of the employee for making there attendance, then what is the necessity of taking signature of the employee under this Act.

Dear Manvinder,

Go to Sector 17 market & purchase the book on Punjab Shops & Commercial Establishment, 1958 & Rules made thereunder for having knowledge on proper enforcement of this Act. You can also purchase the set of forms for Shop Act registration from same book depot & submit the same with the Labour & Shops Inspector of your area at the office of Assistant Labour Commissioner, UT whose office is situated at Labour Welfare Board Building Sector 30 for registration.
