Default Can Language Be A Barrier For Performers?

Only Yesterday I Have Come Accross With Very Peculiar Situation During My Meeting With A Top Executive Of One Of The Most Prestigious Organisations In India. During The Meeting He Raised The Issue That Since I Was Not Speaking Gujarati I Would Not Be Able To Handle A Particular Job In Hr And Ir. But , I Was Not Convinced And I Reacted Strongly As I Am Of The View That If One Has Right Kind Of Attitude The Language Can Not Be Barrier.

It is not 100% true. If it is multinational company or your level of work in managerial, i don't thing language will be a barrier. In some cases if the company wants to delete the name they have to say something on your weak point.

Hi Ravish,

Language can be a barrier depending on which industry you are in and what level of people you are going to interact with. I am based in UAE and at times I find it difficult because of my lack of language skills in Arabic. A lot of people will disagree with me. But, the fact is I work in an organization where majority are Emiratis and other Arabs. Some of them have limited knowledge of English and hence are unable to communicate freely with me even if they want to. I had a tough time framing position descriptions due to this.

Extend this and see if it will fit the scenario you have described. There maybe a valid point.

Regards,
Geetha

jayant & geetha , thanks for your inputs. but geetha's case is quite different and since you are based in emirates and you had not learnt a foreign language before the problem bound to come. i went for the position of general manager , 2. in india all the languages are somewhat related to oneanother.
