Dear All
I am HR Manager in the tata dealership. In our line festivals are the major business time. Nut my management decided not to give any holiday for the whole month of oct not even on diwali , dushera.
All the employees are demotivated due to this circular.
You pls suggest me as a HR manager how should i react.

Hi Rachna,
For your kind of business model festival days are revenue generative. if employees will enjoy offs on these days your business will take a hit. As an HR Manager you shoul take it with a positive note to ur employees and try to convince them. u can give them comp off for the same.

if its so important to continue with the production work, you may call for a 3 hours party on the diwali night not only for the employees but also for their families.invite their families, make arrangements for laxmi puja, crackers, let the employees enjoy on this eve and then after the festival give them leave in shifts.
i know this may not fully compensate the demotivation flowing in their veins but atleast u may try by participating alnogwith them.

Hi,
Look as your managemnet has decided not to give holiday in Diwali you have to obey it and as you said this time is a peak time for your business so being a Hr Manager you should take it positively and encourage your employees too.Dont forget to offer them sweets on diwali when they are at officeon that day.And tell them this working day will be adjusted later.

Dear Erchana,
I agree with the posts posted so far. Take it positively and convince the employees. Give them the example of Indian soldiers who are patrolling the borders in the festival seasons also.
Thanks & Happy Diwali

Dear all you great people on this board,
Could anyone of you explain the following:
Under what provisions of which law employer can ask employee to work on National Holidays and Festival Holidays?
What compensation is employer should pay to employees for engagement on National Holidays and Festival Holidays?
Your response will be highly appreciated.

Hi all,
Rasheed question is correct, normally our one of the main festival is diwali if no other alternate the HR Manager should talk with Management to offer compensation for that day. Before diwali working day Management should circulate about the benefits for working in diwali festival time. Because this will attract in labour law if not compensated. We have to go with Positive direction and motivate the employee that i agreed but at the same time HR Manager duty to do favour to the employees.

in one of my earlier cos, we had a miniature mela held on the premises.
small 1-2 ppl stalls for eatables, mehendi, dance floor etal.
the sr mgmt must visit and celeberate the festival inhouse.
also ensure attendance must be 100% on such days. dont give leaves to anyone.
