Default Is recruiting consulting pure luck??

Is recruiting consulting more of a luck thing??? Is it more so for a new entrant in the market ? Why do I ask? Here's why....

1. We need clients - matter of luck if we get good (break) clients
2. Once we get clients - they give us requirements - The requirements could be either tough/old/stale or hot/easy? Again matter of luck
3. Now comes resume searching/sourcing - Its matter of luck if we get good candidates because there are only couple of good sources where every recruiter is searching out resumes from. This is true for almost 95% of the time.
4. Now time to talk to the candidates to understand if they are interested - Again luck - candidates not reachable/not available/ not interested/
5. Few candidates say yes, so send resumes to the client
6. Client Feedback on Resumes - Duplicate/ Rejected/ Shortlisted
Now there is no transparency here about duplicate or rejected resumes most of the times. You are lucky if your resumes are shortlisted.
7. Resumes shortlisted, time to schedule interviews
8. Candidates may either turn up or not for the interviews. Their wish. You have no control on it
9. Client may give feedback on time or not. Again no control.
10. You may have to put this client's requirement on back-burner and catch new clients. So begins a new or is it the same old cycle..

What I see is that as a recruiting consultant, one has very little control on the whole process
- you dont have control on candidates
- you dont have control on the client

So is it more of a LUCK thing to succeed in this industry. Maybe because the entry-barrier is too low ???

Is it just that u keep increasing your odds of been successful by processing more and more client requirements and hoping that at least one would click at the end of the day.

What is the minimum number of client base one needs to have?

What is the minimum number of recruiting team should one consulting company have?

What is the minimum number of openings per recruiter that one should have to increase their odds?

Just questions...hopefully anyone who has read thru so far has the answers??? Please share your views.

Thanks

Hi!!! I simply agree to the luck factor for the New entrants into recruitment firm. You have really raised all the valid points that you could have.

Her's answering your questions 1 by 1

What is the minimum number of client base one needs to have?

The minimum number of clients one can have as far as i believe would be five. Keep the numbers low but give them the best services possible. Believe me, you will be earning the same amount be your clients number 5 or 100. You should be able to justify at the end of the day with the quality of services that you offer than the number of clients you cater to.

What is the minimum number of recruiting team should one consulting company have?

I started on my own as a single man(read woman) show. Today i have 4 recruiters in my team. Its just that how much work load you and your recruiters can take looking to the number and urgency of the positions you need to close.

What is the minimum number of openings per recruiter that one should have to increase their odds?

Its easier to get people for the junior positions and not so specialized jobs. So it really depends on the kind of positions that they are being asked to close. most of the Senior positions or specialized jobs are Strategic positions so takes time to fill.

Wish you good luck!!!!

Regards,

Alpana
