Hi,

Apart from the training you have received during the pre-commission days, have you acquired any qualifications in management/hr related subjects? or in soft skills (or would you like to rely on your defence dervice like many of the retirees do?) Your training and the active service in defence is valuable but has limited proximity to the corporate world.

I suppose you need to get a formal qualification like, MBA (HR) or Diploma in Training & Development from ISTD etc. Then spend some time with a consultancy specializing in corporate training and only after that you should be spreading your wings and soar the skies!

Frankly even today you may be able to handle corporate training but it is the corporates who may insist on "qualification" and "hands on experience" in the field. It is for this reason the above advice.

If you have more specific queries, post them. I will be happy to answer as best as I can!

Regards
samvedan

Hi Veena Maam,
Saw your post in cite. Its great that you have decided to get into corporate training. Like samvedam said, you will most definitely need a certification from any training institute (in courses like 'Train-the-Trainer')and also if you have an additional qualification like an MBA (HR) then it really adds value.
But if you dont have any certification or an MBA, dont lose heart yet, coz you can always try n work for these smaller IT cos as their in-house trainer/training manager till you can acquire new qualifications.
Also, i believe that if you remain at kerala, there is little scope for you to find good exposure, so try n get to either bangalore or hyderabad, sooner the better.
I am an ex-serviceman too and am presently working as a Training manager for an IT firm in bangalore.
In case you need more details, feel free to write to me at .

sridhar

Hi Veena,

Wow, I am delighted that with this kind of background you would like make your career as Corporate trainer.

One thing which is not mentioned in your mail, whether you would like to join some company as Trainer or you want to set up your own thing.

As both Sridhar and Samvedan has mentioned that you need to have some qualifications not necessarily in HR but surely in Training and Development. There is an institute ISTD, Indian Institute of Training and Development, which offers 18 months diploma course in this subject and they provide good knowledge.

I'm in the same line for last few years, if I can be of help let me know.
My email id is .

Cheers

Hi Bhushan,

" Would you please tell me, which way I ought to go from here?"

"That depends a good deal on where you want to get to, said the cat"

" I don't much care where, said Alice"

" Then it doen't matter which way you go, Said the cat"

" SO long as I go somewhere," Aloce added as an explanation

"Oh, you are sure to do that," Said the cat, "If you walk long enough"

Lewis Corell. Alice in Wonderland

This is how, we should plan our career.

There are four steps to go ahead:

# Knowing your career preferences: Understanding yourself thru a self assessment technique, to know your skills, knowledge, specialisation, interest, values and personality.

# Explore your options:
The information may include, job description, working environment and conditions, training, other qualifications and experience.

# Make wise decision making

# Taking Action: set goals, develop career management skills etc.

Career in Traning and Development requires a lot of experience and knowledge on the subject. If you have good communication, presentation, you can manage people, leading qualities, read and update yourself timely, solve other's problems, empathise with people, see the side of Trainees and counsel them you can be a good trainer.

Start shifting from HR executive job designing training budgets, calendar, design some modules, ake small sessions such as on communication skills, presentation skills with smaller batch and then see hpw's the outcome.

Hope all this will be of help.

Thanks

Hi,

Archana's reply is more than adequate. In fact it is excellent.

I too would find it easy to answer a little more direct and ficussed questions, but for the time being I am not going to even try and amend the advice you have received because I support that advice fully!

Hi Archana,

Thank you for your response. To be very specific i possess the skills you have mentioned that the trainer would need but my nacent knowledge level needs to be developed my understanding of the training field and also the dynamics of training needs to be understood. My question is that would diploma in training and development and a certified trainer and developer certification provide me the platform on which with a strong foundation i would be able to deliver training sessions and would it give me enough credibility in the indstry if i would want to affiliate my self with one of the renowned training institutions.

Iam 23 now and have just started my career in HR after my MBA. I need expert guidance like yours i do not want to take any unguided decision and later realize that there could have been a better way of achieving what i want to.

Regards,
Bhushan
