Hi Kavitha / Surendar,

All practices are generally devised by the HR head. First giving an offer letter and then giving the appointment letter and disclosing the sal breakup is untrustable. It leaves a bad opinion on the company. It is better to issue the entire pucca letter with all details to candidate.

Many companies follow the method of issuing offer letter in instalment basis and it amounts to mockery.

Even if you give the delayed salary breakup details after a week of joining, any candidate who has decided to run away will anyway run away the next day or next week or next month. Why fear him if you pay him the right salary? He will not be tempted to run away.

I am currently heading the HR in Epublishing & Finance BPO in Chennai and I disclose everything in one letter itself. I have drastically reduced the unwanted paper work and double work. There are no confidential reasons or anything like that in offering a job. The market pay standard is clear and why fear about the candidate. It is all in the hands of the HR and in his words.

The retention in our company is vey high and the attrition is around 3 percent only annually. Quite unbelievable..?? True. When our company went for IPO recently, other company CEOs in Mumbai had asked my CEO about this achievement. Now the model that I devised is called as the 'Chennai model' by the Mumbai management.

If a candidate suspects you at the time of getting offer letter, then nothing can hold him back. Always be clear, transparent and true. The result pays you.

Chandru
