Introduction Hello Everyone,
I am new to the forum, and actually new to all forums. This is my first experience joining a site such as this.
On the topics of firsts: Last month, I accepted a job as Compensation Manager for a company that specializes in sewer & water line rehabilitation. I am very excited to be given this opportunity because I have wanted to transition into the compensation area for quite some time, and this is a very stable company with tremendous growth opportunity. The VP to whom I report has mentioned repeatedly that she is looking for me to become an expert in international comp within the next year or so.
The disadvantage I have is this: my background for the last 10+ years has been in the benefits specialty (with a minor role in executive comp, dealing with LTIP and deferred compensation at my last employer). Although I am confident that my analytical skills, ease with numbers and genuine interest in this area will allow me to perform well, I am challenged when it comes to the day-to-day, basic compensation knowledge, terms & processes. This, combined with trying to learn a new company, industry & HRIS system leaves me feeling paralyzed at times.
Therefore, I would welcome any suggestions you might have to help me increase my knowledge and form a solid foundation for this new career opportunity.
Thanks for reading my intro.
Best Regards,
