Default Got a Project in Afghanistan...Suggest!!!

Dear All,

I am working with a OD consultancy and we got chance to do a project in Afghanistan....but we are afraid to go ahead wit the project because of the unsecured conditions in afghanistan....but the project has a huge value...

Can anyone tell me how safe it is to go with this project...

Does anyone have anything about their culture and about the people over there?

Ravi

I think you have not heard the news about murder of some indian officials in afghanistan recently.they were in heavily guarded areas and still were blown by bombs and they were high ranking officials.Afghanistan is not a safe place at all.Life is the biggest thing and high risk of life is their in afghanistan for indians.I suggest NOT to go.

Dear Ravi,

Life precious and you got one chance to live the full cycle of life. Security threat something cannot be compromising. I remember While I was in Kenya one of our employee from Pakistan working as cashier was shot while carrying cash with tow police escorts everyone was killed. In third world countries employers are not so sympathitic towards this events and no compensation offered because life in third world is very cheap. every day many people dies in third world countries no one bothers because this is normal.

After loss of life what matters if learns the lesson its very easy to be vise after soemthing goes worng.

Besure,of what you are doing?

Regards

Sawant

Dear Ravi,

There is no doubt that situation in Afghanistan is not ideal for foreigner, mostly western, to work, but it is neither as worse as it is described by Sam and Sawant. You should know here more 2000 NGOs and IGOs work work in Afghanistan. Many private business companies are working here. You should contact these companies/NGOs/IGOs and ask how they survive here. I am working for a Foreign bank, many foreigners work with us and they got no issue.

It mostly depends where about the country you work, and what you do.

Regards

Tam

hi ravi,

the risk is very high. but like tam suggests, it cant be that bad either. check ur security arrangements and current political condition there and then decide.

except the city of kabul and surrounding areas there is no semblence of civilization in afganistan. apart from security threats there are multitude of day to day life problems like access to water and electricity. almost no entertainment options, though u'll get hindi movie cd's and songs, life is tough even in kabul as it is a frequent target of mujaheedin attacks, being the seat of karzai government and american forces HQ, forget about other taliban strongholds like kandhar and whole pak-afgan border.

but if you are young and unmarried with no major worldly responsibility and if the job pays fantabulously..... go for it!! uncertainty & danger is everywhere how long one can hide. go for the sake of adventure, see new different places, do something other than routine and more of the same. life begets you..... take plunge.
