Hi to all ,
I have just started my learning in HR into recruitments by joining a placement firm. But i am little bit confused about my decision . Is it more apt to join a corporate rather a consultancy to gain exposure into hr tasks .

cheers

Verma,
Now that you have joined a placements company and that too into Recruitments, i would suggest that you stay back and start learning tricks of trade, i dont believe that if you join corporate then only you will get exposure then consultancies.
I am sure when you are into consulting feild its a pretty good challenging job for you but for that you need to be bit aggressive and take up challenges and start learing all that makes you a better recruitments. After workin for some time you will be able to decided where you would like to go...for that you need experience to start...

Once you identify yourself to be a good recruiter then you can more into corporate.
Please dont get fancy about corporate ...both have different challenges to meet...all that we need to do you start some where if you are a fresher then once you make your base then you can move on as per your career aspirations.

Good Luck....

Yes..exactly! but without a good degree or without exp its very difficult to get a HR Generalist role...it appears u dont have any relevant hr exp but i think u may have a degree..keep trying for trainee or fresher HR Gen job....working in a placement co., well..from an HR's point of view, its not considered as any one up..but these days many corporates have diversifies their recruitment function and have a seperate team for that..thats the only scope for u to get into corporate and ur scope is thicker..if ur IT recruitments..coz many IT Firms have seperate recruitment vertical..

So it could be a long process..but just make up ur mind..u have stepped on a difficult road..HR is a nasty thing..not many people get HR jobs' break without any relevant HR exp.....however on the second thot..recruitments alone is also not a bad job..u can earn a lot!! and the scope is much brighter with recruitment firms churning millions and recruitment industry is supposed to boom........so be patient, hopeful..and keep trying!!

Dear Verma,

Stayback in consultancy atleast for 6 months.. Really you will learn more techniques in recruitment..

If you are shifting to corporate, you must have the strong knowledge in HR Policies and proceedures. otherwise its very tough to move with the people.

Holding technical recruitment experience from the consultancy is more helpful when you are entering into corporate recruitment.

Before taking any decision, think twice.

All the very best.

Warm Regards,
Kokila

Default hi

I read ur thread, let me tell u this is a common deliemma. But there is no harm in doing recruitment for a consultancy.HR is a function which cannot be compartmentalised into any genre. It is all about recruiting the best for the organisation and thereafter looking after them(basically retaining them). All that changes are the organisational specific requirements, which can be studied in no time at all.Experience in HR is very important. So enjoy ur job and learn about man management.
