Thumbs down How to: Impress at job interviews

How to: Impress at job interviews

1 Prepare thoroughly. Research the company by looking through its annual report and other literature and website. If you have applied via a recruitment consultancy, pick its brains. Prepare answers to stock questions such as "Why did you choose accountancy as a career?" "What interests you about our company?" "What are your strengths and weaknesses?" "What has been your greatest challenge?".

2 Make sure you arrive on time--there is no excuse for being late and you may ruin your chances before you get through the door. It may help to do a trial journey first so you know what to expect.
3 The old chestnut that the interviewer will have made their mind up about you within the first few minutes is true-first impressions are lasting impressions, so make them count. Look the part and always wear a suit, even if you know that the company has a relaxed dress code.
4 Be polite to receptionists, secretaries and other employees you encounter. The impression you make on everyone may count, especially if the office is small.
