As an experienced person, i will give you a piece of my advice..hope as a senior you'll give heed to my words..

Firstly, stop panicking....you are extremely lucky for having got an HR job as a fresher and that also from distance learning university...the nature of your job is what we call "HR Operations"..

The Core functions (which u want) cant be handled just on the basis of our bookish knowledge...i think you should strive to be satisfied with your present job..get good expertise at what you are doing currently, after a good hands on experience..you can apply for HR Generalist positions and you'll get very easily if you have 1-2 years of HR Ops experience..(what ur doing now),..and one more advice, never join recruitment consultancy..never..remember my advice..you'll regret that decision later...

you are lucky that you are working for a HR Profile..in consultancy you'll get stuck in only recruitments and that will be your point of no return..so plz take heed of my advice..stick to your present job, i dont know since when you are working with this stock broking company..if you have just joined, then work here for atleast 1-2 years, after which you can apply or shift in core HR profile

Dear Vineeta,
Thanks a lot for your valuable reply.
I highly appreciate this and will positively heed your advice.

I am working with this company for past 1 year but i am not expecting a bright future here.My job is HR Operations but not purely in my hands, means i just do all work as our HR ask me to do. I don't make any policy or any formats(offer letter, appointment letter)i just distribute them to regarding employees.

I just want that i could make and impliment HR policies myself, i could give my contribution in a direct way . Which i have read in books i just want to apply the same at my work place. But in my present job these all are not possible.
Now what to do?????
You know something........a person can perform his best if he enjoy his job and heaving job satisfaction. The same i want. That's why i want a change.I want to enjoy my job, want to explore myself but i am not able to do the same.
Hope you are able to understand my problem.
Please help me if you can.
One more thing i will always keep in my mind which you have suggested me don't go to any consultancy for a Recruiter job.

Can you suggest me any course which i should join to move ahed in HR Genralistic Profile??????
Once agin thanks a lot for your support.

Regards,
Archana

Hi Archana,

Fully agree with Vineeta that you should not panic..

I would like to know how long you have been you have been working?..my guess a year or two..

Must credit you for getting this great break especially after doing a long distance course..and read your job profile indeed it’s quite credible and interesting as one can learn a lot !

My suggestion is ; please learn more about the process for instance you have been making the offer letter & appointment letter – assess and read the profile of the person who has selected over the candidates and thereby understand the recruitment process and strategy of the company.

Understand the relevance of the HR formats for you are the custodian and assess the effectively of the same by way of the informal discussions with the employees. Prepare the report as how it can be improved ..here you can avail the tips and tools available on this forum.

Remember no job or assignment is demeaning and everything you do has a great scope to learn!..I remember a Management Consultant was talking to the newly joined Accounts Assistant who was responsible for the data entry of the vouchers..he commented that he himself was a Chartered Accountant and laid a lot of importance on the vouchers punched as one can learn a lot about the organization and the Business by simply being aware of the process and asking questions!..

Just be patient and learn more about the processes you handle. Prepare report as how it can be improved and its effectiveness to your current organization. Incase your present organization doesn’t heed your inputs – then look out for the options with your better understanding of the Business.

Best Wishes,

Rajat

Dear Archana,

I have more than 3 Yrs of experience but havent ever had an experience of making the policies and so called formats ur saying..and u expect to be involved in such role in just one year??..sorry to be blunt, but you still have a long way to go to get a good understanding of the HR scenario...

Can u fathom forming policies is a mammoth task??..the whole company runs by it..swears by it and the goals are attached to the same..its like a pillar! and for such an important task..u think they will assign u??

policies are formed when a company is being setup..but revision can be done at anytime..and for anything like forming or editing the policy..a person with highly strategic span of control is considered..newbies like u and me dont form policies dear...i repeat..continue working here..u have a long way to go..gain 101% expertise at ur current role first then do whatever i've mentioned in my earlier post.."in my opinion"

All the best
Vineeta

hi, firstly congrats for being in HR ops at such a young service,u are lucky!Let me tell u that a young mba feels he/she can do a lot and change everything. He has a very idealistic view of the world.U have an excellent opportunity to learn the practical aspects of HR.Remember HR is about the human quotient and not just stastitics or figures.Changing HR policies is therefore done at a very senior level by people who have dealt with human resources for more than 15 years.I would suggest u stick with ur present job.U may not get this kind of opportunity too often
