Question Human Resource to Quality

Dear friends,

I'm working as a Manager HR in US based software company, I'm very much comfort with this position. I can manage any challenge... even I've successfully implemented so many HR policies in my company.

Suddenly one of my friend, working as a Quality manager(ISO, CMMI) in Riyadh. He has advised me to switch over to Quality. Its much more challenging. but, not that much mental pressure compare to Human resource.

I hope i can get the right decision from this forum...

With best Regards,
Kokila

Dear Kokila!
In every orgnization like HR department, Q.A. Department is also directly unde the employer due to their functions. while QA department is having staff with minimum educational requirements eg.an engineer, diploma, ITI,means Technical background. Now having knowldege about ISO9001 and 14000,etc.improves indepth knowledge about the real function and statuse of the organisation. If you have done PGDHR or MBA-HR, then NO-Doubt to continue in the HR Field. So dont get baffled, take decision on your own educational back ground.GoodLuck! - chandra

Hi Kokila,

Could you please elaborate on “Mental Pressure”…

Please remember all jobs have their two sides like a coin ..whether it is Marketing, Product Development, Operations etc have their set of problems including QA as well.

Hence the “mental pressure” alone cannot be a reason for the change in functional area.

People change their area for growth & challenge – Like Mohan Pai Head of HR Infoysis comes from Finance background..especially when they have reached the pinnacle of success in their fields of interests!

Therefore don’t make a change for the sake of “mental pressure” . First assess your strengths and interests in QA..it would be advisable to do a course in the same to assess your competency.

Best Wishes,

Rajat Joshi

Dear Chandra / Rajat / Peer,

Thank You for all your support & suggestions.

Let me explain,

I was started my career as a HR recruiter as well as generalist HR. At present I’m Playing the role as manager –HR. Almost I’m going to complete 4 Yrs service in this field.

In my present organization, we are only taking care of internal requirements and other internal HR activities. Suddenly my CEO instructed to take care of H1B Visa process. Successfully, I’ve done this H1 2008 visa process (Quota) for external candidates.

Now, he wants to Introduce Consulting division in our company. He asked me to take care this…

So.. Think how much the pressure will be.

Meanwhile, I’m working for ISO 9001-2000 certification for my company. I feel somewhat comfort and feel happy to work on this. So, I thought of switching to quality. This is the root cause of change in mind…

Kokila

A good decision. Even i have the same profile. I was into teaching for 10 years. Handled varied positions from executive to Head-HR. 6 years into HR and parallelly due to my own interest i have done certifications in ISO related areas like 9001, 27001 as my company demanded

It would be really helpful and you would enjoy (provided you have the enthu) working in quality as you can always look for process improvements in the environment and drive the organization towards that

Feel free to get in touch to share your views

Kumar
