Hi Guys,

I will be taking up a research in my second year masters in HR and for that i am allotted Retail Sector can u ppl help in selecting a topic in retail. I basically want to know in which topic should i do my reserach in RETAIL INDUSTRY.
Please do reply i have to submit my topic in some days.

I am happy to note that you intend doing research in retail industry. As you are aware, retail industry is booming with many well known players are in the field. Prominent among them are Reliance, Birla Group, Pantaloons, Westside[Tata group],Spencers[RPG]. You should consider yourself lucky that you were allotted to research in retail sector.

You can chose a topic on handling customers, customer behaviour and CRM[Customer relations Management]. Retail sector being customer oriented, ample scope is there if you master CRM and there is heavy demand for the same.

Hi Namita

Sreenivasan said it right. Retail industry is booming and customers are going to be in focus undoubtedly. In this boom with more multinationals (including Walmart) coming into India, customer loyalty is going to be the biggest challenge for these Mega Retailers. It is worth doing a research in any topic related to customers and their behaviors or retaining customers or customer loyalty.

My suggestion would be,take up a project on "How employees are hired, developed & managed" in the retail industry. B'coz Effective HR management equals to superior financial performance. This will have direct impact on the success of any business.

Hi Namita,
You can also do some research on Space Management,as now a days Return per sq. ft in retail is very important thing in Indian Retail business because of the increase in property rates

Thanks for helping me but i need to do a research in the area of HR some HR aspects like PMS, Compensation etc so can you suggest some topics in that aspect too.

May go ahead with the topic employee engagement in Retail Industry.
Even may opt for attrition management, Perception of hiring process.
