Default How to handle if Boss is poor in listening skills

Hi All

We are total 5 members including HR Manager in our HR team and recently our company appointed HR Head above us.

He is a nice person but his listening skills are very poor. Whenever we discuss anything with him he starts with a good response but very soon reacts as if he is not interested to listen. It happened so many times with me as well as with my other Team Members that we have explained him certain thing and because he gets absent at that time he asks the same question for which we have already answered.........

And because of his this behaviour we face the humour creates by our other staff.....

One day he said that he wants to analyse our listening skills and gave us the good presentation but we all were thinking at that time that is he really aware of all the points he is telling us to look while listening to anybody.......

Anyways now the issue is that after finishing with his presentation he committed that he is poor in listening but stressed on the word "Little" means he said that "I know that I too have to work on my listening skilla because it is a little poor"

Then we realized that atleast he knows that he is poor in listening but the point is that even after knowing it, he commits the same mistake like no eye to eye contact, working on laptop or dialling numbers while listening, looking here and there....etc...which is very irritating and ignoring.

Though we know that he is not doing it intentionally but it is creating a lot of issues and frustration in our team...

Kindly guide how can we handle this situation..........

Waiting for the replies...

Deepti

Dear Deepti,

I am sure you have heard of the KISS rule in communication. The span of listening in communication varies from person to person. The KISS Rule is actually the answer for your concern....

Keep It Short and Simple...thats what KISS rule stands for...You have said that your HR Head has a short interest span, make the most out of it. Some people are good listeners, some are not...the KISS rule would make a selective listener also take your comments.

Try it. I am sure it will work.

Regards,

Arun
