Default Re empoyment of Retired Employee

Dear all,

We all are value our employee and mostly when he / she is working for our company for more then 20+ years and he has devoted his/her productive years to the company. After working for such a long a period......... suddenly day come when he/ she retired and its change the life. Way to see the life is almost change and we discontinue the employee irrespective of their potentiality or efficiency to work.

I am planning to formulate policy to re recruit the retired employee and use his expertise and huge experience to continue better performance of co and even to provide the flexible working condition instead of keep him ideal at home.

So I am looking for you all input for the same.

Have a nice day.

Hi Jagnesh,

Your thinking is good but have ever think from the other side.

The person has worked nearly 20 years or more than that to your company. Whatever he could give to you he has given. Now this is the time when he/ she can stay with his family and play with the grandchildren. He need physical and mental rest.

SECONDLY, if a person will not retire how the other will get the chance to proof himself. Now in these days the unemployment is a big issue and in that case if you would rehire the retired persons, it will create a another problem.

From my point of view, you can take help from the retired person and give him RECOGNITION. At that stage the person is looking for the respect. If you will give him respect and call him for Lecture, Help and asking him to give the guidance he / she will be very happy.
Since you are calling him so reimburse the Taxi Fare, provide a good Lunch ( as per his choice), as a token give him some gift. If you have the Mediclaim policy, extend it for him to help him for Medical assistance.

Hi Jignesh
While your approach in this matter is noteworthy you need to excercise caution in terms of using the services of the retired employee. The work done by the person should be exemplary and if there is no one in the organisation to do it then a stipulated time frame has to be kept for using the resources as it is always better to have a second line person within the orgnisation to take on the role moving forward. One never knows what plans the retired person may have as he takes up the assignement. So watch out while using the services.

Just having crossed the age of superannuation a person may not become mentally and phisically obsolete. He may continue to possses the same attitude towards work. Sometimes, a person who had 20 years experience would be a real asset for an organisation. Owing to financial urgencies he may desire to continue also. In such situation, I believe, there is nothing wrong in planting a retired employee. I have seen so many persons over the age of 55/ 58/ 60 employed in private sector organisation after spending their vaulable first innings in some public sector undertakings. Yes, I do agree with Amitya on the poit that allowing superannuated employees to continue will drive away the opportunities of young generation waiting in the queue.

If you take the labour laws, there is no specific rules for this. You can employ retired persons but do not contribute to Employees Pension Funds.
