Hey sara,

A bold opinion from your side. I am sure everyone believes that you have your own choices. Well, what i could understand from the mail is that, the person is purposefully doing whatever she is doing and is in no way helping the company but doing harm. There is a difference between dressing whatever she wants to dressing objectionable. Well thats the difference.

Freedom has its rules. "Your freedom ends where mine begins". Thats what they say...

If her intentions are not to pollute the culture of the organization, i am sure she would have changed a little bit to suit the company norms. Well, i strongly believe that your employees are actually your brand ambassodors...and the way they dress does say a lot about the company. If the person who reports to you comes to office in a shabby dress, would you be comfortable working with him?? guess no...then why shouldn't there be dress code policy, to ensure that there is discipline and synergy in the organization?

Well, a successful organization is one where employees are comfortable working with each other towards a common goal, if the employees are not comfortable, how will they have synergy?

Just a thought...

Regards,

Arun.

[pls note: my intention was not to hurt anyone, am just putting my point across.]

she is under NO obligation to dress nicely to keep some idiots happy. (i may be getting over excited this issue, but i think this is really a stupid thing...as long as there is no voilation of the company policy, she's alright)

that's not what i said or mean. i may have my prefernces. but i am looking at it objectively.

i think she may choose to fix a few things, depending on her job role (being a business manager, i am sure she knows what she is doing...she canot be stupid. that's for sure!)

but to try to please some creeps (who probably go home and dream about her) is just really stupid.

Dont take my words in negative manner.

Dear Preeti,

As mer my view, you should take it in normal way, because she is new & don't know about your org. system & her previous profile connected to the same.

Just ask her to have look on others & follow it. Try to get her understand in simle way.

Hi PreethiIn my opinion first suggestion 1.Tell the girl about the difference in the sector or industry from which she is coming from. 2.Tell her about the dress code conduct of your organisation and finally 3. Put a general mail to all the employees about the dress code conduct in your organisation. All the best,Anjaneya HR

Preeti,

Remember you dont have dress code. Dont do anything that will trap you. Allow her to continue to wear those dresses. Prepare a dress code and circulate it after necessary permission of your boss as if this a new initiative. do it within 1-2 days.

your problem can only be solved by this way. you dont have any other option.

Take care

Hi Everyone

What started as a small query /concern of a young HR person , soon developed into a volatile debate .I have faced this too when I was in the industry .Our representative in Paris would come to the plant (situated in one small city in Karnataka) in the most tiny mini skirts I have ever seen.Inspired ... by her , two girls from our staff -one Merchandiser and the receptionist started wearing similar oufits. The representative based in Paris , was not our employee but would get commissions for the orders she got for our firm and would come to the plant once in six months. As the HR executive , I was often asked by many employees why I permit such outfits .I said that it was a matter of personal choice and if they were comfortable , none of us should be concerned .What we were to be concerned with was their performance .Now as a faculty member , I am on the other side and was asked by one senior colleague to wear sarees and not salwar kameez to work.Ofcurse I refused !I feel clothing is a personal issue .Its a different matter if there is a dress code in place .But if there isnt , I would say one may look vulgar even if fully covered , depending on their behaviour .Its all about perception .To lighten this whole debate I am attaching a funny note below .It would be nice however if Preeti told the forum how this was all sorted out .All the best Preeti .

Hi Preeti,

The best way as already suggested by few members here is that-
-Call for a meeting formaly or informal.
-Communicate concern about her clothing .
-Tell her difference between previous and present organisational/geographical /local difference.

IInd phase
-If the above mentioned things dont work.
-Drop a mail by HR head.

This is always better to pin point the issue with the concern instead of thinking about dress code or policy or approvals. This will be time taking and may not give postive results.
