Default Recruiting Trainers for Rural BPO's

Hi,

I am Surya,I have joined as a HR-Executive in a rural BPO,which is in Hyderebad. The BPO's are located in the rural villages of AP.We are actually having trouble in recruiting Trainers to our BPO centers.

We require trainers who can train rural graduates in Basics of English (Written, grammar,Spoken,Listening & Comprehension) and Basic of Computer.Compensation package is quite good enough when we analysed. We are even ready to have a change in work, they can work 5days in a week and spend saturday & sunday with their family. On outstation we pay them travel, accommodation allowances. But still unable to meet our requirements. How to go about it.We tried outsourcing but its expensive.

If any one can help us in this regard please do let us know. How to go about it and fulfill our requirement.

Awaiting for your help and positive response in regard to change in recruitment strategy or means to fill our requirement in the right way.

Thank You
Surya

These practical problems would come, you can have different camps / batches where you can arrange trainings for your employees.

You can touch base with me in finding such organization or trainers.

Default Recruiting Trainers for Rural BPO's

Dear Surya,

Rural BPO is just catching up, in order to find right people for training you have to understand various dynamics.

The whole concept has not picked up really because there are many indians out there who have still not seen the comforts of modern days.

Therefore every individual who has migrated to cities over the last 10 yrs and still migrating to cities for better jobs is enjoying or want to enjoy high compensations being offered by IT sector. Dreams of the average middle class and lower middle class families are just shaping up in the form of house, car, AC,TVs ,stable income etc...Therefore they woudn't like to come back or settle for lesser lifestyle(Which is real in case of Rural BPOs with less or un-competitive packages)

There are also many vacancies in the cities and job options to move from one job to the other against less alternatives and no choice available in the villages. (That means unemployment is less in cities) .So when there is enough demand in the cities people will not like to come back.

For contrary to happen there should be negative demand in the cities which will force poeple to look back to their place of origin for jobs in their own surroundings rather than migrating. (i.e One has to choose between Physical comforts in cities Vs Family sentiments, bonding, environment, low wages, healthy living etc in villages...)

1.Hiring: You can get local school teachers in English and Computers as trainers but the quality and training methodology will not be same as evolved BPO training. If you hire trainers from cities , it will be expensive. You could try to identify local trainers and train them in BPO standards, but it will be difficult later to say whether they will stay or leave, because they would have acquired marketable skills

2.Wages:This is tricky, because most corporates try to use sentiments of village advantage and cost cutting to pay wages as per local standards but in order to get best quality we may have to shell little extra than what is offered in the cities because quality people are not willing to migrate back to the villages. Example: Countries like Australia or New Zealend offer Higher packages for doctors from cities to work in remote locations, as many woudn't like to work in far/remote locations.

This works to an extent because doctors who want to work in a village need not forgo their physical comforts/career obsolete/competency and at the same time enjoy village life. (Before inddependence, British officers deputed to india from UK where paid their country salaries in india because nobody was willing to work in india). The advantage is that these officers will be committed to their job and will not hop positions as their every want is being met and they don't need to worry that their being under paid then their counter parts(Long term commitment and loyal).

This should be the model in initial stages until more and more people get attracted. So that once there is enough supply the salaries can be brought down. Eg. Either pay more money initially to buy a latest product(DTH connections) or discount the latest proudct to attract larger audience and later increase the prices.

Otherwise we may have to try to find people like sharukh khan in SWADES, which is practical(0.0001%) but time consuming. However this is not easily replicatable and quite contradictory to business acumen which believes in the science of being able to replicate one successful model to every possible location when we want to and where we want to.

Rgs,
Suresh Varma

Hi Surya, why dont you try doing online training for them from specialised trainers around the country. They sit at home in their respective desks and train your people in the BPO. When people can train students online from India to US, why dont you try this within India. You have skype which you can project on a big screen through the laptop and the video conferencing can happen from the instructor. They dont charge much too, and you dont have to invest in infrastructure. Try it out!!
